A three-hour asynchronous online course on implicit bias in the access to and delivery of healthcare and social services, built to satisfy the full three-year requirement under Mich. Admin. Code R 338.7004 in a single enrollment.

The course runs in two parts. Part A establishes what implicit bias is and how it operates inside an encounter. Participants work through the perpetrator, target, and bystander perspectives, the difference between individual, institutional, and systemic bias, a toolkit of strategies for reducing disparities in access and delivery, and a communication framework for the conversations that follow when something has gone wrong. Two clinical case studies anchor the material, one on the access side and one on the delivery side.

Part B moves from awareness to action. Participants examine the documented history behind present-day disparities, covering care infrastructure and the physician workforce, consent and research participation, and the way assumptions were built into clinical evidence and clinical tools. They then work through what the current research does and does not support: what implicit measures establish at population level and what an individual score does not predict, which disparities persist after adjustment for insurance status, comorbidity, and severity, and what the meta-analytic evidence says about the durability of training itself. The final third is applied. Participants audit their own discretionary decision points against the conditions that concentrate exposure, work five interruption strategies ordered by strength of evidence, rewrite three stigmatizing chart notes drawn from behavioral health, dental hygiene, and physical therapy, analyze a three-site no-show policy in which the withheld operational facts are revealed only after they have committed to an interpretation, and write a bias interruption plan containing three if-then commitments, one measure to review within thirty days, and one structural change to propose.

The course is delivered on demand on desktop and mobile with no live component. Progression is gated segment by segment. A certificate is issued the same day once both post-assessments are passed.
