Caring in Crisis: Best Practices for Birth and Lactation Support When Families Fear Detention

Families across the United States, are increasingly avoiding hospitals, clinics, and home-based services due to fear of immigration enforcement, detention, and racialized surveillance. In Minnesota and other impacted communities, this fear is directly affecting access to prenatal, birth, postpartum, and lactation care placing parents and infants at increased risk. This webinar will explore the intersection of racial justice, reproductive care, and immigration enforcement from the perspective of a community based birth worker. Participants will gain trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and ethically grounded strategies to support pregnant, postpartum, and lactating families who are fearful of accessing care. The session emphasizes practical best practices that birth workers, lactation supporters, and healthcare professionals can immediately apply in crisis environments.
