Social Media Addiction – The Correlation Between Tweens, Social Media and Mental Health
We will discuss addiction and the relevance of dopamine into the frontal lobe. We will draw comparisons to the dopamine levels that are activated during many forms of addiction and the fact that addiction works harder, faster, and is stronger in a brain the younger or earlier it is introduced because the frontal lobe is more malleable the younger it is introduced to youth.
We will compare other industries that have tried coaxing youth to addiction and draw parallels between addiction industries and their tactics. We will talk about industry design within the social media industry and how they build in certain actions that become more habit forming. We will also talk about a movement that shows how you can cut social media use to assist reducing stress and feeling less anxious by using social media less and other techniques such as “batching” and “gray scaling” or learning a “Social Media Detox.” Moreover, we will also show that teens are now seeing the need for reducing Social Media Usage more so than their parents and what these unique discoveries are finding as well.
