Motivational Interviewing Across the Stages of Change: Practical Strategies for Supporting Sustainable Recovery
This training is designed to help addiction professionals, including clinicians and recovery coaches, apply the principles of Motivational Interviewing (MI) in practical, real-world ways to support clients as they move through the Stages of Change (Transtheoretical Model, TTM). Participants will learn how to effectively meet clients where they are in their recovery journey, using MI as a collaborative, person-centered approach that enhances motivation, reduces resistance, and supports client autonomy. The session emphasizes guiding clients step by step through the continuum of care while honoring readiness for change and individualized recovery goals.
Through applied strategies, clinical examples, and skill-based discussion, participants will explore how MI techniques can be used to help clients progress toward the next stage of change. The training also highlights how MI strengthens internal confidence and self-efficacy, supporting clients in both achieving and maintaining long-term recovery outcomes.
