A Meaningful Life with Alzheimer’s Disease
Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias present complex challenges for nurses, individuals living with dementia, and their care partners. This evidence-based educational activity will provide nurses with current information on pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic approaches to dementia care, including emerging disease-modifying therapies, management of behavioral and psychological symptoms, and practical considerations for safe and person-centered treatment. Participants will examine the importance of caregiving networks, including how demographic, social, and caregiving factors influence care outcomes and caregiver well-being. The activity will also introduce the evidence-based 4Ms framework—What Matters, Medication, Mentation, and Mobility—as a practical approach to person-centered care. Emerging consumer-controlled technologies and the Remember ME concept will be explored as tools to strengthen communication, information sharing, self-advocacy, and shared decision-making. Through case-based learning and clinical application, nurses will gain knowledge and strategies to improve dementia care, strengthen caregiver support, and promote outcomes that reflect the priorities and needs of individuals living with dementia and their care partners.
