Intro to Restorative Practices and Circles
In this 2-day workshop, participants will learn the fundamentals of Restorative Practices and Circles through engaging and interactive exercises. Restorative practices build social capital and achieves social discipline through student participatory learning and decision making. The objectives of the course include:
- Reflect on the different purposes for community building and provide some community building strategies to participants
- Introduce RP as twofold: 1) building community and connections; and 2) repairing harm
- Be able to name the 4 components of the social discipline window and characteristics of each
- Name the 3 parts of fair process
- Describe the compass of shame and people different reactions to shame
- Explain the Restorative Practices Continuum and why some strategies are more formal than others
- Understand and be able to use affective statements
- Learn the parts of the Non Violent Communication Model and model it in scenarios
- Learn the framework for Restorative Questioning and practice it
- Introduce Circles, their purpose and develop some ways to use circles in your setting
- Introduce and plan to utilize different circle structures (sequential, non sequential, fishbowl)
