Past Experience

Prior supervision/mentoring experience
I am dedicated to providing supervision to LLMSWs who are passionate about the work and view it as a calling as opposed to a job. I approach supervision from a collaborative perspective and believe that a trusting relationship between supervisor and supervisee is crucial. I don't pretend to know everything. Each of us brings our unique life experiences and skills to the table and I believe that we can and should learn from one another. An important part of my supervisory practice focuses on "the use of self" in psychotherapy and in social work in general, the importance of approaching clients with empathy and humility, and utilizing a strengths-based approach. I emphasize adhering to the NASW Code of Ethics, maintaining records in an accurate and timely manner, celebrating successes, learning from mistakes. and ensuring the well-being of clients. I have 14 years of experience providing clinical supervision to MSWs and limited licensed MSWs in the early stages of their careers. I hold a certificate in Core Supervision through the NASW and I spent five years as a University of Michigan Field Supervisor, providing professional clinical support and guidance to social work graduate students completing their field placements. I am currently in private practice where I have supervised LLMSWs providing therapy to individuals. I also enjoy working with LLMSWs who are interested in developing, implementing, and facilitating support groups. In addition, I have extensive experience in the non-profit arena where I supervised students, volunteers, staff, and LLMSWs working in domestic violence shelters, homeless shelters, foster care, food pantries, hospice, and in group homes. "Empathy is vital in social work to help us understand a client’s world. True empathy allows you to develop yourself in the truth of others in a way that makes the world a kinder, gentler place. In this kind of empathy, you find the truest form of grace." - unknown
