Nipple Issues in Lactation: Assessment, Prevention, and Practical Solutions

Nipple pain and damage are among the most common challenges families face during lactation and remain a leading cause of early weaning. This webinar provides lactation and perinatal professionals with practical, evidence-based strategies to assess, prevent, and manage common nipple issues while supporting families with confidence and compassion. Participants will explore normal nipple anatomy and variation, differentiate between typical discomfort and clinical concerns, and examine common conditions such as sore or damaged nipples, vasospasm, milk blebs, and pumping-related trauma. Emphasis will be placed on accurate assessment, latch and positioning correction, and trauma-informed counseling approaches that center the family’s experience and goals. This session is designed to strengthen clinical skills, improve client education, and promote sustainable breastfeeding outcomes through timely, effective support.
