Past Experience
Prior supervision/mentoring experience
Hurried between-session consultations that help a colleague move forward or see a situation from a new perspective. Fielding questions from students going into practice or seasoned clinicians moving into solo practice. Answering questions for newly trained EMDR therapists. Brainstorming possible solutions with a colleague over a sticky situation.
I have invested in my own supervision/consultation for many years because it's helped me with the nuts and bolts of practicing therapy. But it's also helped me form my professional identity, my guiding principles, and an array of lenses through which to view what people bring into therapy. I'm at a point in my career where I'd like to pass on some of what my mentor/consultant - wise, warm, experienced, always learning - has gifted me over the years.
I've worked in a community-type setting, then private practice in a large, thriving psychiatric office, and most recently in solo private practice.
I have experience with a wide variety of mental health issues and rubbed shoulders with other mental health disciplines in ways that have informed my current practice. I've worked with children (and their families), teens, couples, but now primarily adults. I practice through a trauma informed perspective. I have a wall of sand tray miniatures and a sand tray that becomes an important tool at times. I find IFS, parts work, ego states and interpersonal neurobiology to be wonderfully helpful in taking clients beyond a purely cognitive-behavioral approach. I've found that the body is intimately connected to trauma so I seek to include the body in therapy.

Additional comments
It's important to find a supervisor/consultant relationship where you feel comfortable as well as challenged. Safe as well as stretched.
